Nuclear Reactors 708 - Department Of Energy Launches National Reactor Innovation Center

The 2019 Nuclear Energy Innovation Capabilities Act (NEICA) directs the U.S. Department of Energy (DoE) to facilitate the siting of advanced reactor research demonstration facilities. Partnerships are to be encouraged between the DoE and private industry. The NEICA established the National Reactor Innovation Center (NRIC).

Animalchemists

Perusing Kickstarter games is becoming a bit of a hobby of mine, and I'm always amazed at the different games being created every day. I've purchased a couple of games this way and sometimes I think they're much better than the games you can buy at the store. One of the funniest games I've ever purchased was via Kickstarter.

Are You Seeing Things?

Do you ever find yourself wondering if you're seeing things? I do it ALL the time. I'm talking on a daily basis. My doctor has said that I need to sleep more, and she's right, but that just proves that your imagination can be pretty powerful. But scientists can also stimulate your brain in order to make you see things, as they've done with mice. It's kind of scary, even if we already know that drugs can do this.

Which Bands Are Similar To The Grateful Dead?

If you're listening to Pandora or a similar app that suggests songs based on what you like, you might already know a lot of bands that sounds like the Grateful Dead simply based on those recommendations. Maybe you've searched for some on your own, or maybe you're looking for some now. It's always nice to find new music you like, and if their sound is similar to The Dead (which, let's face it, isn't 100% possible, but they can be in the same ballpark!), they're bound to be enjoyable, right?

Best Sorbet Recipes

With berries ripe and fresh right now, it's the best time of year to get or make a good sorbet. I love sorbets made from just about every kind of berry, not to mention citrus versions. Lemon or orange? Be still, my heart. So I knew I had to pin this no-churn berry sorbet recipe, especially when I saw it was low-carb. As long as you have some sweetener, almond or walnut oil and your berries, you could totally make this.

80s Revival in Pop Culture

Everything from 80s art to music to even clothing is making a retro comeback and those of us who are 80s fans can't get enough. My family even made 80s-themed bookmarks in a library class tonight that featured a retro theme that included how to fold paper notes. Granted, we did that in the 90s too, but it was still pretty nostalgic. My favorite 80s nod is Stranger Things, of course, and I can't get enough of that show or its many memes, merch and fandom nods, but what other 80s pop culture revivals do you love?

Radioactive Waste 402 - South Dakota Rejects Storage Of Any Type Of Radioactive Waste In The State

I have often blogged about problems with handling various types of radioactive waste. Spent nuclear fuel, leftovers from nuclear weapons manufacture, medical radioisotopes, and other types of waste all have their own problems with disposal.

Radioactive Waste 401 - Holtec HI-STAR 100 MB Spent Nuclear Fuel Transport System Certified By The Nuclear Regulatory Commission

I have often blogged about the spent nuclear fuel that is piling up at the commercial nuclear power plant sites in the U.S. For the moment, the spent fuel is kept on site in cooling pools or dry casks made of concrete and steel. The U.S. will not have a undergrounds geological repository to permanently dispose of spent nuclear fuel until 2050 at the soonest.
